Inglorious Basterds and Tarantino questions…?
Why is Basterds spelled like it is? Shouldn’t it be Bastards? I don’t know much about the movie, although I am a huge Tarantino fan (or thought I was). I’m not sure why I haven’t gotten gung ho about this movie and/or even seen it yet. I guess in my mind nothing will top Pulp Fiction (or Reservoir Dogs or Kill Bill Vol. 1). Anyway, is Inglorious Basterds subtitled? And if so, for what portion of the movie? Should it have won the Golden Globes it was nominated for (aside from its one win in the Supporting Actor category)? Is it a great movie in your opinion? Better than Pulp or Dogs? What’s your favorite Tarantino movie? I was disappointed by Jackie Brown and I see that under his Director Credits are the movies Death Proof and Grindhouse, neither of which I’ve seen. What are they? Did they go to theatres? Were they any good? I hope to get some good information from Tarantino fans out there and thank you ahead of time for the responses.
P.S. I’ve been a fan ever since I noticed his name as Writer of True Romance and Natural Born Killers, two of my favorite movies.
According to wikipedia, he spells it with an "e" because that’s how you say it- how it sounds.
I wasn’t gung ho about it either but I watched it this weekend & got very much into it. Throughout the film it’s in subtitles: French, German, & Italian. I can’t say specific parts because from the beginning on it changes back & forth.
I enjoy all his films. My fave is probably Kill Bill Vol 1.
Death Proof is funny. I like the dialogue & music.
Grindhouse is known as Planet Terror the zombie film by Robert Rodriguez, his bff in RL. It’s cool, Quentin plays a role in both films, 2 different characters.
They both were in theaters.
I don’t know why people are so hard on Jackie Brown. I liked that film & loved the music.
I think that it should win for Best Supporting Actor. He played a good role. So did the main female character.
It’s gotten some flack for not being more about what Jewish people were going through at the time- I’m not sure if people expected a more Stephen Spielberg kinda movie but I got very into it.
It had action & comedy & after you watch it you know it had to be made by QT.
He should get something for his screenplay- not all awards should go to artsy, low budget films..
There good as well, but I don’t think QT gets much credit for being different. Each of his films differ from each other. I don’t compare them to say one is better than the last- I just forget all his previous work when I watch his movies.

it was inspired in part by a 1978 movie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Inglori ous_Bastards
from wiki=
The title of the film was inspired by director Enzo Castellari’s 1978 Dirty Dozen-like war film The Inglorious Bastards. Though Tarantino acknowledges that both the former and the latter were inspirations for the film, and there are noticeable similarities, he stresses that Basterds is an original work and not a remake of the 1978 film. To date, there has been little explanation of the title spelling. When asked, Tarantino would not explain the first u in Inglourious and said, "But the ‘Basterds’? That’s just the way you say it: Basterds."[5] He stated in an interview that the misspelled title is "a Basquiat-esque touch."[6] He further commented on the Late Show with David Letterman that "Inglourious Basterds" is the "Tarantino way of spelling it."[
it is not like his other movies. 80% is subtitled. i dont think it diserved best picture , but it was a good movie, congrats to the best supporting actor!
death prrof and gindhouse was a project he collaberated with robert rodriguez. he directed and wrote death proof, the second half of the movie which had nothing to do with rodriguezes first half half, grindhouse, it was played like a double feture with funny commercials in between. i did not like grind house, i think rodrigeze is too violent and over the top for my taste. weird cause i love tarintino,
i love true romance and resivoire dogs, cant really choose, but i think the best was his section of "four rooms" rodriguezes segment was great too,
