|
IMDB rating: 6.70 Plot: Set in the distant future, a spaceship carrying some 40 people, mostly ones wanting to settle on other planets from their own, hits a meteor shower and crash lands on a distant planet killing all but about a dozen of them. The survivors, led by the second-in-command Carolyn Fry (‘Rahda Mitchell’ (qv)), find themselves on a hot and humid landscape with constant sunlight from three orbiting suns. Fry not only must help the survivors find food and water, but contend with a deadly criminal, named Riddick (‘Vin Diesel’ (qv)), who was being transported to a prison cell on their destination. But every 22 years, the planet’s three suns go into a total eclipse for a month where darkness brings out the planet’s real inhabitants; large, reptilian, vampire-like creatures that come out and dominate the surface in total darkness, killing and eating all life. The Fry and her people then must cooperate with Riddick, who has surgically enhanced eyes to see in darkness, to lead them to safety and off the planet before they all become dinner for the creatures. |

ok, so I'm writing a book, tell me wat you think?
this is all I have so far:
I’m running from something that I can’t see. I can’t hear it. All I can see is the destruction that its causing as it chases me through the dark, deserted streets. Windows are breaking, car alarms are going off, lamp posts are being ripped from the ground as easily as grass. Right as I turn the corner, I trip and fall. I look up from the curb and see that the destruction is almost on me, the trash bin 10 feet to my left is torn from the ground. I raise my arms to defend myself. A huge amount of force hits me, it feels like its going inside of me. The force pulls out of me, there’s a flash of light, and then darkness. Pitch black, all around me. I am dead.
some people say that there’s no afterlife. They are wrong. The afterlife is hard and cruel. The weak are often consumed by dark spirits. The strong become the dark spirits, "mythological" beasts, or in some cases, if they have enough will power, stay pure. I am neither categorized as strong, nor weak, but as a different race entirely. I am one of the ones who sends the dead to the next plane of existence, Paradise and Torture, for Good and Evil respectively. I am a Relinquisher. We are created when somebody is killed by a dark spirit and another Relinquisher saves their soul frombeing consumed. We have many names; Shinigami, Grim Reapers, Death Gods, among others. Almost none of the stories about us are true. While we do escort souls to the next plane, most of our time is spent warring with a faction of Relinquishers known as the Corrupt. They have many names too, the most popular are demons and djinn.

okay, that’s what I’ve got, tell me what you think.
@kathrl69: yes, I am looking for validation online. I wanted to know a few things. Like if it was too cliche nd if its a good way to start a book. Its my first book… I’m only 13
Demons and djinn?! Whatever…

It’s good… but it needs a few changes. But more… adjectives in and instead of next plane maybe it could be… next place, life, time etc.
Also start of like your talking to a friend, you know get a sizzling start. Like WHOOSh, the lamp post flys up and Hits the ground with a Clang!
Something.. intriguing!
But it’s really interesting and really good!

I like it but you have a couple cliches in there. Don’t let that stop you, seriously. Just keep writing and let this cool off for a while. When you come back to edit it, you’ll see what I’m talking about. Just write until the end, now.
I want you to succeed in finishing this. It’s like a Dante’s inferno, but I can see from your vivid imagery in the first paragraph that you have the raw material to keep this fresh. Keep writing, keep learning.

I think you’re miles from writing a book. You’ve written a whole 300 words and you’re already looking for encouragement and validation – and posting your work freely online?
